Overview of the Maritime Industry (5 Days)
For personnel who may have specific work skills in an organization, but who are unfamiliar with the marine transportation industry as a whole, this course will provide a solid background in the many components of the maritime shipping industry. These facets include a broad overview of marine transportation systems, the structure of the maritime industry and the business of worldwide shipping. Topics include transportation systems overview; marine technology development; vessel types/construction; structure of the maritime industry; shipping company organization; agency representation; government policies and regulation; freight rates and liner conferences; flags of convenience; seaport and terminal operations (including field visit); containerization and intermodalism; dry/wet bulk transportation; cargo documentation; information technology in the maritime industry; marine insurance; chartering and brokerage; and the future of the industry. |
