Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) (70 Hours)
Through lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises shipboard personnel become skilled in GMDSS theory, equipment and operations via lectures. The equipment includes a fully operational GMDSS station with NAVTEX receiver, EPIRB, SART, VHF, transceivers with digital selective call (DSC), MF/HF SSB with DSC, TELEX, Radiotelephony, and INMARSAT Standard A and Standard C satellite communications terminals. The course satisfies the training requirements found in Section A-IV/2 of the 1995 STCW Code. Students successfully completing this course are eligible for an endorsement on their respective 1995 STCW Certificate as “Valid for service on vessels operating in the GMDSS system.” |
