Coxswain Phase I (BM)

GMATS Courses

Through lecture and lab emphasis will be placed on increasing sailors’ competency in small boat handling, disaster prevention and RHIB handling.  This course includes studies in the areas of: inflatable life rafts, allowance and issues, reports, disposals and surveys, capacities, weights, dimensions, equipment and repair, stowage and handling,.  Also included are; survival gear, boat etiquette; honors and ceremonies; aids to navigation; chart plotting; boat boom and boat davit procedures; towing alongside; search and recovery techniques; pier landings; and underway transit.  Practical training exercises will be conducted on small boats.  Upon completion, sailors will be prepared for the BM rate advancement examination.

Prerequisites: Boatswain Mate Phase I & Phase II or Equivalent Experience. BM & MA Rates (E1 - E6).
