Sealift Qualifications Training - Engine

 
  

Purpose:  To provide necessary training to members of the Merchant Marine Ready Reserve Group (MMIRRG) to maintain qualification standards for the program.

Personnel:  Merchant Marine Reserve Officers

 Prerequisite: 40 Hour Basic Safety Training

 

Modules:

Day 1

One-Day Marine Refrigeration Refresher – Engineering Officers

Review with the student, including hands on laboratory demonstrations and exercises, the process of evacuating and recharging refrigeration systems.  Also covered during the one day refresher will be troubleshooting common refrigeration controls including thermostatic valves, relays, unloaders and controllers.

 

Day 2

Eight-Hour Chemical, Biological and Radiological Defense (CBRD)

This course meets the standards and content of MSC's CBR-D Orientation course and NATO STANAG 2150 NBC (edition 7) Annex A: Basic Standard for Performance - Individual Service Personnel, and is approved by Military Sealift Command.

 The course of instruction includes: Introduction to MOPP levels; Introduction to Radiological Warfare; Introduction to Biological Warfare; Chemical Agents/Chemical; Compounds & Skin / Eyes Decon; Mcu-2/P Protective Mask & Chemical Protective Clothing; CBRD Decon Procedures (Personnel); Chemical Detection & Ventilation;

Ship Monitoring & Ship Decon.

Day 3 & 4 (1/2 Day)

 M9 Navy Handgun Qualification Course

 The course of instruction includes: Safety; Nomenclature; Familiarization; Operation & Maintenance; Basic Skills; Familiarization Fire; Handgun Qualification. The Navy Handgun Qualification Course is executed in accordance with OPNAVINST 3591.1E.  Students may qualify for the Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon, Navy Sharpshooter Award, or the Navy Expert Pistol Medal.

 

Day 4 (1/2 Day) & 5

Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Brief (ATFP Level I)

Includes handouts and ATFP Level I Certificate (DOD Approved Course)
