This course has been developed expressly for new officers in the Merchant Marine Individual Ready Reserve Group (MMIRRG) as their first Annual Training. This course will help you set a course for a successful career in the Navy Reserve and outline what role you play in the mission of the USNR, Merchant Marine Reserve Program.

A close and mutually supportive relationship between the Navy and the Merchant Marine has existed since the American Revolution. The Merchant Marine Reserve, U.S. Navy Reserve (MMR, USNR) Program serves an important role in our Navy’s sealift mission.

Ships from Ready Reserve Force (RRF), MSC and the U.S. Merchant Marine have supported Navy Operations in Operations Desert Shield/Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. The Merchant Marine Reserve, U.S. Navy Reserve Program builds and strengthens the natural bond between our companion sea services - the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Merchant Marine.
