Through hands-on the student develops a basic proficiency in the use of machine tools.  The basic operation of the machine lathe, drill press, grinder and milling machine will be covered.  Each student will machine a pre-designed project through the teaching of this course.  The student will learn the basics of drawings, plans and sketches.  Each student will machine a taper, knurl a surface, and cut multiple threads (single and double thread techniques).  Use of precision measuring tools is thoroughly covered in this course.  Various types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and associated machining techniques for these metals are addressed.  This course is an excellent preparation for the Machinery Repairman rate training exam.
