The objective of this course is to advance the student’s skills in the Machinist Mate rate.  During this course the student will learn to operate steam plants and associated machinery.  This will include boilers, steam turbines, feed pumps, and all types of shipboard systems.  The student will become proficient in all aspects of shipboard steam plants and their maintenance.  They will also learn to operate and maintain auxiliary machinery outside of main machinery spaces such as electro-hydraulic steering engines, elevators, refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems and desalinization plants.
